City Council Approves FY2026 Budget Amendments and Generator Bid
The city council approved budget amendments for fiscal year 2026 and the lowest and best bid for a generator. The budget amendments were presented by Lady G. The generator bid was also included and discussed, with its cost having increased significantly since the last review. The motion to approve the budget amendments, which included the generator, was made by Gary and seconded by M. A subsequent motion by Gary, seconded by Brian, to approve the budget amendments and generator was also passed.
City Approves Hydration Support for Outdoor Workers During High Temperatures
A motion was passed to allow public works, wastewater, and parks commission employees to purchase bulk Gatorade or other hydrating beverages when the temperature reaches 92 degrees Fahrenheit. This measure is intended to provide workers with electrolytes in addition to water during extreme heat, as permitted by state law. The motion was made by Brian and seconded by Gary.
City Receives Unmodified Audit Opinion for Fiscal Year 2025
The city's fiscal year 2025 audit report was presented, showing an unmodified audit opinion, which is the best possible outcome. The net position saw a slight decrease of approximately $209,000 from the prior fiscal year. There was also a small increase in the pension liability of about $46,000. Governmental funds had an increase of $1.2 million in fund balances, while proprietary funds experienced a slight decrease in net position. Capital assets saw an increase of over $1 million in governmental assets and a decrease of $1.5 million in business-type assets. Long-term debt decreased by $1.3 million, with $2 million in new debt issued and close to $3.5 million paid off. The city has ample room within its legal debt margin. Two minor corrections were noted and will be made to the report: the word 'county' should be 'city' on one page, and 'counties' should be 'cities' on another.
Discussion on Street Renaming in Favor of Honoring Local Athlete Moves to Executive Session
A discussion occurred regarding the renaming of a street in honor of Travoris. Concerns were raised about a city moratorium on renaming streets implemented years ago due to frequent changes, which caused issues with maps, GPS, and emergency responders. It was suggested that instead of renaming the entire street, a marker could be placed in honor of Travoris for his athletic contributions. This would avoid the expense and logistical nightmares associated with changing addresses and maps for residents and emergency services, and bypass the need to lift the street renaming moratorium. The matter was moved to executive session for further discussion.
